Nantes to the Atlantic

It was looking so black this morning we considered staying put, but decided to be brave or stupid. I always thought we would be fine with weather south of the Loire, but it started to rain as we crossed the bridge, and a few km on we had to shelter from a storm under a motorway bridge. It turned around though, and we had a great day putting in a record 87km against a strong headwind. We are in St Gilles Croix de Vie, which seems a posh way to say Clacton.

It's hot and that's official. Went down to the beach for a dip of the toe in the Atlantic and the beach and sea were both busy. It was a pity I had to drag myself back up the beach next to the topless sun bathers, but as the saying goes someone has to do it.

Can't believe that it rains anywhere else as much as it does in UK, but you have proved it. Looks as if you are drying out today Geoff!! Hope your saddle is not sore. Janis xx

Just managed to catch up with your progress and what wet fun you are having! It has been horrid here but at least we are all indoors! How is the new bike Ian? And Geoff, they say size is not important but those wheels must be hard work! Never mind, nearly in La Rochelle - love it there - and the seafood and aphrodisiac oysters must be calling you. Just make sure it is a twin room and not a double theat night! Been looking at a map of your route and it all looks downhill to Barcelona now so enjoy the freewheeling and don't forget to buy that Nappy Rash cream! A bientot mes amis. Neil C
