La Rochelle and Ile de Re

A day off, again. In our defence you have to have R&R in nice places. This morning we abandoned the velo's and availed ourselves of a bus. For Margaret and Martyn who when they read this will fall back in amazement it all went OK. Basically if you were to ask them they would say 'Geoff doesn't do buses'. It must have been Ian's influence.
Ile de Re is as you imagine a south of France seaside village. It is perfect and the sun was perfect, it was all perfect in some ways that was a problem, well not really, but it was just too good.
We went for a pre boil in the bag drink as I found the only bar still selling La Guignettes. We were torn between rouge, acid fruits, orange, vanilla + 2 more, we went for acid fruits it was good very good. A great old bar full of sorts of non tourists selling 750ml bottles from the pression of a traditional La Rochelle drink. Basically it's a fruit wine in 6 flavours. All good and all cheap, hence the local knowledge.
If there is a readership out there you may wonder about the boil in the bag connotations, well more of t...... no we went for a meal at La Caisse a Jus (which as 2 blokes we interpreted as The Juice Helmet!), you know the new restaurant next to Les Halles. Ian ordered this meal which proved to be fish and foie gras in a paper bag. Meanwhile I had lentil soup with lard and an oyster thrown in for good luck. As you can see we are slumming it.
Did I tell you about the Eton boys, well more of that later.
White Stripes you thought it was a group, if you didn't you weren't listening, well it's Ian's new alias. All the sun, cycling and wearing sunglasses and Ian has white stripes.

Hi
Geoff, and Ian!
Finally I have caught up with you. Glad you have forged through the
weather, and what weather it was?! Beaucoup des petits averses! Now I
would like to see evidence of your new improved muscles upon your
return, but not the callouses!
Connor and i are sporting tomorrow at a 2 day event. Tone is head (and
only Groom!). Fingers crossed,
