La Rochelle to Saujon

What are the three things cyclists don't want (I'm sure there are more than 3)
1. Rain
2. Headwind
3. Hills
Well we got all three today with lots of rain, lots of headwind and a few hills. The rain was so bad we thought we may have to call it a day at lunch time. We stopped in a cafe dried out/changed, had lunch and waited. Eventually the rain abated and we were off again.
We came across a transporter bridge at Rochefort, unfortunately it was not running for another hour so we went over the new bridge, photo attached, what a climb.
The good news is that we are now in a country hotel with a wedding/christening party, le soleil brille et les oiseaux chant dans les arbres (believe or not that was the first French I ever learnt) and we are having a beer.
The hotel gets stranger it's now full of older large women all eating the same food talking at volume across the restaurant. The maitre D thinks he's a comedian and he talks constantly to all of them. We think they may be inmates of the spa down the road, we'll never know. Meal very slow but excellent.

The photo of the poster is for a band in La Rochelle. I feel they should chat to a image consultant about their name. There again I may be wrong and they could become successful.

I've just had the ultimate put down. I asked a waiter in French if they were serving dinner tonight he replied in English that he did not speak English he only spoke French!

Ian's summary: I was dry then wet (very) then dry then wet and dry several more times. Some fields were going by at the time.

Hi Geoff(&Ian)
Looks like you've strayed from the direct route onto the Via Michelin scenic route. You should reach Rochfort and Bordeaux tomorrow and enjoy the Cheese & Wine. Keep peddling Bob & Sue
