All of which is probably a good thing. You haven't missed out on champagne, however. You'll see in the photo the size of the bottle that the lucky winner of our sweepstake will be handing over to ourselves at the end of the trip. Unfortunately there has not been a great take up in our competition. We'll have to look at ways of encouraging you to partake.
So where are we tonight? We are in Marmande about 90km up the Gironde from Bordeaux. It's potentially a nice town but somehow it's not got it, but we did have probably the best desert of the trip. A coffee raspberry creme caramel concoction.
We took a 55km cycle track from Bordeaux before lunch today which proved to be mostly uphill, exhausting. We've moved now on to a canal section now which is currently excellent. The canal is the parallel canal (that is to the Gironde) which connects to the Canal du Midi. So the Med here we come. Photo of Ian on the perfect cycle way in Bordeaux. We need more like this in the UK.
Ian says: congrats to Neil and Helen on their baby girl. Mind you when Helen does a 55km uphill cycle track she will understand what blokes have to go through.

well you must be in the sunshine by now then - pretty impressive distances !! have you sampled some fine wines ? stupid question really ! Tell Ian he'll be pleased to know that Hannahs joining you for the next few days - isn't there a very high suspension bridge nearby !!! Have fun you two because the time is flying by so you need to enjoy !!!
